| Dear Foxfire Friends, Welcome to the 2011-2012 school year. We are extremely excited to begin our twelfth year of serving at risk youth in Southeastern Ohio. We have great excitement, enthusiasm and expectations for our staff and students during the upcoming school year. This past school year, we were awarded the Crystal Star of Excellence Award by Clemson University for Drop Out Prevention. This award, along with the label of “The Model Alternative School” by the U.S. Department of Education drives us to sustain the successful legacy of Foxfire schools. Change and adaptability is a critical component of our culture at Foxfire. This year we embrace the change to the 21st Century by providing each student a Sprint 4G Netbook. The Netbook will change the educational world forever as it will replace the backpack, notebook, pen /paper. Our students will be connected to a global world, both inside and outside the classroom. Teachers shift from presenting the information to facilitating the learning. Our students will utilize technology skills in every aspect of the curriculum. Enclosed is our 2010-2011 school report along with pertinent information for this school calendar year. Foxfire will also utilize WHIZ TV and Radio, The Times Recorder, Progress Book, Parent Engagement Nights, Parent –Teacher Conferences, Home to School Newsletters, and curbside coffee to help keep you informed. You can also utilize our district website: www.foxfireschools.com for vital information. While on our website, take some time to look at our Best Practices video clips under Doing What Works or simply go to www.doingwhatworks.com. We are very proud of the success of the program but most importantly the relationships that we build and sustain. A mentoring program and alumni mentoring program is in place to foster strong positive relationships. People and relationships are what Foxfire Schools is all about. Foxfire –where we teach the un-teachable, reach the un-reachable, and impact lives. No success can be achieved alone and that is why we offer diverse embedded wrap services that include 2 social workers, a nurse, school resource officer, drug/alcohol counselor, work study coordinator, outreach coordinator, special education coordinator, special services coordinator, post secondary coordinator, and credit recovery coordinator. We are eager, privileged, and thrilled to work with your child and so many wonderful partners of Muskingum County. I am fully confident that TOGETHER we make a difference in each child’s life, future and in our community. I invite you to stop in and play an active role in your child’s education and life. If you have any concerns or questions please stop and see us at 2805 Pinkerton road or call us at (740)453-4509 |
